George Brunies

George Brunies (1902-1991) was an influential American jazz trombonist and bandleader, primarily associated with the New Orleans jazz and traditional jazz genres. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and became known for his distinctive playing style and virtuosic technique, which helped shape the trombone's role in jazz ensembles. Brunies was a member of several notable bands throughout his career, including the New Orleans Rhythm Kings and the Muggsy Spanier Band. He gained significant recognition during the 1920s and 1930s, particularly for his work with the “Brunies Band” and his collaborations with prominent figures like Louis Armstrong. Some of his notable recordings include "The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise" and "I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate."
